I have been thinking about the cello for some time now. The idea for a new work first came through writing poetry and hours of listening. Dvořák and Bach of course, but also Kodály and Schumann. Then one day, on leaving a messe brève, I saw a novice crossing the cloisters carrying a cello and so the first motifs came to me.
